#DaylightSaving Lose an Hour, Gain Spring Weather

March marks not only the beginning of spring and the return of warmer weather but holds the promise of more daylight hours with the return of daylight saving time. Although this means that we lost an hour of sleep that night, it brings the hope of spring, its warmer weather, and possibly flowers blooming again.

What is the future Daylight Saving Time?

Daylight Saving Time is an incredibly hot topic these days. The US Senate just passed a bill – in record time – to make daylight saving time permanent.

But many are asking what this actually means. This would bring an end to the twice-annual clock-changing ritual. The bill is called the Sunshine Protection Act and would begin in 2023. The bill now lands in the hands of the House of Representatives and then possibly on the desk of President Biden.

Whether or not the bill becomes a law, it has certainly gotten a lot of people talking about spring break, spring holidays like Easter and Passover, family road trips, and more in the future.

Spring Road Trip Safety Reminders

During road trips, it is important to keep certain things in mind to keep yourself and your family safe on the road.

1. Be sure to take breaks to stretch your legs and prevent feeling drowsy at the wheel. Experts compare driving drowsy to driving drunk in that you are not as alert and your reflexes are slower – a dangerous combination on the road.

2. Keep your distance from the drivers in front of you to prevent accidents, damage to your vehicle and windshield, and injuries. If they stop suddenly for whatever reason, a good distance can save you from a terrible, costly accident. Consider looking at your car’s safety features – many modern cars have a form of collision avoidance that can warn you if you’re following too close.

3. Check tire pressure as well as wear patterns on your car’s tires before a long trip to ensure your tires are in the best possible condition.

4. Clean your sunglasses and keep them handy! With brighter mornings, it is important to make sure you do not need to squint while driving. In fact, consider polarized lenses that prevent a lot of the glare that makes it difficult to see well.

5. Don’t text and drive! Safe driving requires your full, uninterrupted attention at all times. It is the only way to ensure your reflexes are at 100% and you can prevent any potential accidents or mistakes on the road. Assign one of your passengers to reply to your text messages for you or just let them sit until you pull over for gas or a stretching break.

We all know there is nothing quite like quality family time during the warmer months on picnics, drive-in movies, barbecues, and road trips. If your car’s windshield has a chip or crack, be proactive and get that checked before you get on the road?
